Abstract

Paper  GIS Tools and Linkage to NRIS WATER
Track: Water Resources
Author(s): Harbans Lal

NRIS WATER--the water module of the National Resource Information System, developed by the USFS--consists of an Oracle database that stores spatial and attribute aquatic information. A dynamic and seamless linkage between the NRIS database and GIS has been developed through a customized ArcView project described in this paper. This linkage permits (1) creation of linear and point events for routed coverages in ArcView; (2) transfer of information automatically from ArcView to Oracle tables and forms, and vice versa; and (3) display, query, and analysis of attribute data for ecological/watershed assessment and classification.
