AbstractIntegrating CAD-Based Design into GIS Facility Management Track: New Technology and Technology Integration Author(s): Richard E Chappell Engineering design is a significant portion of any facility management organization. While much of the design industry works with CAD on a project-by-project basis, owning organizations need to manage those newly constructed facilities, typically in enterprise GIS databases. Rather than being diametrically opposed technologies, CAD and GIS can complement each other by looking at facility management from the design stage and incorporating the two technologies into a cradle-to-grave process. The key to this integration is an understanding of the architectural differences (and similarities) between the technologies and how to utilize those differences to migrate data through the enterprise.
