AbstractDeveloping an Agent-Based GIS Using ArcObjects and XML Track: New Technology and Technology Integration Author(s): Frank Chang This paper presents an agent-based GIS for different users with distinctive demands and priorities, constructed by ArcObjects and XML. Traditionally, customizing such a GIS took substantial efforts and resources. This project illustrates how to build reusable GIS components that can be dynamically deployed in a distributed environment. The advantage of XML is explored by defining Document Type Definition (DTD) to maintain hierarchical structure of spatial information. The agent, in turn, generates the presentation according to the detected patterns of users' needs. The integration results in shorter development time, easier data exchange, customizable user interface and flexible and interactive presentations.
