AbstractImproving -Citizens' Quality of Life Track: Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Author(s): Steve J. Person In Lansing, Michigan, there was a critical need to create a seamless network between the Police Problem Solving Teams and service providers to effectively link low-income families to access information related to the following essential services: 1) crime, neighborhood problems, and crime prevention; (2) food; (3) housing; and (4) clothing. To increase communication, we implemented a City-wide Internet-accessible e-mail system and made it searchable from the Police, City, and County Web sites. To coordinate and increase accessibility of services providers, we implemented an Information Referral Database available through the Internet. This connected low-income residents to basic needs services such as food, clothing, and health care. In order to enhance the residents' ability to identify neighborhood problems we implemented a geographic information system with crime, park locations, parcel mapping for identification of registered rental properties, County health data such as births and deaths, and environmental hazard layers.
