Abstract
Information Fusion and Mining from Satellite Imagery and GIS DataTrack: New Technology and Technology Integration

We describe the fusion of multispectral image and GIS data in a powerful tool that integrates Esri's ArcSDE and ArcView with a statistical data mining engine (MathSoft's S-PLUS). Our approach employs automatic feature extraction techniques to quantify useful information in satellite imagery and store it in a format compatible with GIS vector data. Image-derived information can then be fused or compared with GIS data to build statistical models that explain the relationships between data variables and to perform information retrieval experiments. We will demonstrate statistical data mining tools for pattern discovery and model validation over very large areas.
