AbstractInformation Assimilation on the Installation Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): Barbara Hough When developing and maintaining a GIS, information assimilation is an ongoing issue. This paper addresses best practices for data integration as discovered through the development of a commandwide GIS for the Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC). This GIS runs over the Internet, exploiting bidirectional data updates. The integration of new and existing data sources is key to the success of this operation. This course of action is never as easy as it sounds. There have been many issues to overcome including security concerns, scalability, as well as data maintenance procedures and responsibilities.
