Linn, David James The Environmental Division at Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, is using GIS to manage environmental and natural resource data to effectively conduct military operations, while preserving its environmental conditions and natural resources. Spatial analysis and mapping are facilitating characterization and mitigation of areas of concern, monitoring and protection of T/E species and cultural resources, preservation and management of coastal resources and aquatic ecosystems (including mangroves, coral reefs, and seagrass beds), preparation for natural disasters, and monitoring land management practices. NAVSTA Roosevelt Roads recognizes the importance of environmental compliance and natural resource stewardship, and GIS is enhancing these efforts. Jonathan K. Linn Eagan, McAllister Associates, Inc.
