AbstractApplying GIS to Wireless Resource Management Track: Transportation and Logistics Author(s): Michael Schonlau Nexterna, Inc. is a wireless Mobile Resource Management firm using GIS to help customers communicate with and manage their fleet vehicles and mobile assets. We are applying GIS to a number of different projects in the transportation, field service, and railroad industries. This paper will discuss a current project we are working on with Union Pacific and the Oregon Department of Transportation to test new radio communication equipment used for train control. We will discuss the following uses of GIS: RF performance prediction procedures, coverage contour creation, polygon-based location logic (GPS-based), Web-based client map interface, and display and analysis of resulting coverage areas and associated test data.
