AbstractGIS as a Decision Support Tool for Transportation Feasibility Studies Track: Transportation and Logistics Author(s): Phil Lidov, Brann A Greager While GIS has grown as a cornerstone in the evaluation of transportation projects, its use in developing and understanding the criteria for screening projects has diminished. GIS data and technology are used to evaluate proposed projects against criteria established by Federal law, but GIS is rarely implemented in the design of the alignments that will be tested. This paper presents a methodology for bringing GIS into the forefront as a decision support tool in this earlier step. An ArcView GIS application relying on linear referencing will be discussed. A Colorado case study of a 52-mile feasibility study is included.
