AbstractInternet Mapping at the County of Los Angeles Emergency Operations Center Track: EMS, Fire, Disaster Management Author(s): Margaret Carlin, Dave Bishop, William Montgomery The County of Los Angeles Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is charged with managing County resources during the crisis response and long-term recovery phases of a disaster or emergency. The EOC relies on its Internet-based Emergency Management Information System (EMIS), an Oracle-based application, for the collection and processing of emergency-related information. The EOC implemented an Internet mapping application that uses ArcIMS to provide a graphical component to EMIS. The mapping application, developed by A.C.T. GIS, Inc. for the County, allows users to view current incident locations and color-coded data from EMIS reports. The online maps are updated with the current incident locations and report data every time users refresh. EMIS has an option that allows users to assign the location of an incident by clicking on a map, which returns a geographic coordinate. The interactive maps allow users to query, select features, and zoom to selected features. In addition to the standard layers, users can add and delete optional layers to customize the maps.
