AbstractInteragency Development of National Watershed and Sub-Watershed Hydrologic Units Track: Water Resources Author(s): Kenneth Joseph Legleiter Hydrologic units through four levels were created in the 1970s and have been used extensively throughout the United States. During the early 1990s the Natural Resources Conservation Service started to delineate hydrologic units to the 5th (Watershed) and 6th (Subwatershed) level by using geographic information systems to meet 1:24,000 National Map Accuracy Standards. With increased interest from other federal, state, and local entities, this initiative has become an interagency effort. The completion of a certified, single, seamless, nationally consistent, and accurate geospatial database based on hydrologic and mapping principles by 2002 will help in producing a national watershed boundary data set.
