AbstractMississippi Department of Marine Resources: Participant-Driven Land Suitability Analysis Track: Ocean, Coastal, and Marine Resources Author(s): Lori Burns Cunningham, Kenneth James Groves GIS is being utilized as a regional planning tool to address growth management issues of the Mississippi Coastal Resource Management Planning Program (CRMP) within the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources. In response to increased development pressure, CRMP is developing plans to accommodate sustainable development and reduce pressure on natural resources including wetlands, estuaries, coastal preserves and other sensitive habitats. Utilizing ArcView and ModelBuilder in the ArcView Spatial Analyst extension, the Coastal Land Suitability Analysis Model was developed for use by participants of various disciplines to assess environmental conditions and identify land most suitable for development according to mutually agreeable criteria.
