AbstractArcGIS Geodatabase Development Track: Database Design, Automation, and Management Author(s): Ken Brelsford Esri's ArcGIS geodatabase models can be used as the foundation for an organization's GIS implementation. One of the key tasks in the development of the GIS is the conversion of existing and new data into the geodatabase. This paper will address the process and requirements for building the geodatabase. It will include the steps for importing data using the data loading tools in ArcGIS and the postprocessing steps necessary to produce a fully functional geodatabase including building the geometric network, setting rules, and validating the new data. Real-life case studies of good and bad conversion experiences will illustrate the concepts. Ken Brelsford M.J.
