AbstractArcView as a Curatorial Tool: Mapping Tropical Botanical Collections in Hawaii Track: Ecology, Archaeology, and Conservation Author(s): Joshlyn Donna Sand, Ken Schmidt Presented is the design and methods used to create an inventory of the tropical plant collections at the Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens. Outdated maps of the collection were replaced to allow for better curatorial management of the garden. Using GPS and GIS technologies, precise locations of each plant are mapped according to accession number, species, condition, and other factors important in inventorying this valuable scientific resource. Once entered into ArcView, the features are linked to other important data relating to the source, provenance, and botanical characteristics of the individual plants to visually present the breadth and variety of this unique collection.
