Abstract
The IKONOS Advantage: Using New High Resolution Space-Based Imagery for Disaster Planning and Management

Space Imaging is a leading provider of commercial remote sensing information solutions worldwide. In September 1999, Space Imaging launched IKONOS, a satellite with state-of-the-art one meter resolution panchromatic and four meter resolution multispectral imaging capabilities. IKONOS satellite imagery is detailed, up-to-date, timely, digital, accurate, and information-rich. Used in a GIS, IKONOS data allows for enhanced analysis for a wide range of applications. This paper will describe the new advantages of using IKONOS satellite data for preplanning response to disasters and mapping for post disaster assessment/mitigation. Real-case application examples will be provided.
