AbstractThe Missouri Lewis and Clark Landscape Project Track: Ecology, Archaeology, and Conservation Author(s): James Dale Harlan The field notes of the rectangular land survey of the U.S. General Land Office (GLO) form the most comprehensive record of the nature of the land before heavy settlement began in the early nineteenth century. These field notes of the survey now stand as historical documents of major proportion presenting the opportunity to model the early landscape. The GRC-UMC is digitizing and analyzing the notes for the (in-state) Missouri River Corridor. This is being done in cooperation with the offices of the Missouri Secretary of State as part of Missouri’s contribution to the national Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Celebration. This presentation will provide an overview of the history and present status of the project as well as discuss some of the significant issues in the database design, AML development, data entry, data analysis, and final graphic product examples, all using Esri's ArcInfo.
