AbstractGIS Integrated with Real-Time Data for Shanghai Flood Control and Drainage Information System Track: Water Distribution, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Chaojun Wu, Miankang Jiang, Minna Li The Shanghai Municipal Sewer Company (SMSC) manages and provides services for the Shanghai metropolitan area storm water and wastewater treatment and discharge. As a part of the World Bank-funded Shanghai Environmental Project, SMSC is establishing a GIS-based flood control and drainage information system that supports the flood control decision making process. Accessing the real-time data acquisition system through a GIS flood control analysis application is a key component of the project. The system stores a large amount of spatial and attribute data and interfaces to a real-time data acquisition system, the rainfall collection system, and weather information to support end user GIS applications for flood control and monitoring purposes. Our discussion will focus on how the system and applications use ArcInfo 8 technology to integrate real-time data, and provide timely information for better management of drainage facilities and improvement of flood control capacity during the raining season. The integrated information, such as the distribution of rainfall and flooding areas, should be available for the customers via Web server. ArcInfo 8, ArcSDE 8, and ArcIMS 3 are the key software programs used for the development of the system and end user applications.
