AbstractMethods for Collection and Dealing with Complex Data Sets Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Rita Walton, Anubhav Bagley The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) is responsible for regional land use, transportation, and air quality modeling for the Phoenix metropolitan area. MAG uses a variety of models and geographies in its planning process. MAG's socioeconomic and land use model, SAM-IM, requires a complex data structure not usually associated with GIS to model land use changes and then prepares input data for the transportation models. These activities require the continuous collection and update of geographic and time period data resources. This paper attempts to describe the methods and techniques used to effectively organize and utilize such data.
