AbstractDeveloping a National Distributed GIS to Support Farm Program Management and Compliance Track: Agriculture Author(s): James A Heald The centerpiece of the next phase of GIS implementation in the USDA Farm Service Agency is "digital" compliance. Procedures are being developed for use of digital imagery including aerial photography and satellite imagery. GPS will be utilized for spot check fields. Compliance involves integrating vector field boundaries with current imagery and matching reported crop information with actual crop data. The digital compliance effort also involves creating mechanisms for more efficient creation and distribution of imagery, tools for collecting and processing crop information, and training to use GIS and analyze multispectral imagery.
