Abstract
Community Colleges: The Front Line in GIS Education

Community Colleges are entrenched at the front door of communities across the country--they offer (or can offer) the initial exposure to GIS for business, industry, and local governments. How can they initiate workshops and seminars in GIS and how can they demonstrate applications to their service areas and beyond? Creating a GIS initiative can lead to better community relations and successful program interaction at the college as well as a potential new program. Lansing Community College and its 14 years of experience will share how to get going and keep going with fresh and exciting ideas.
