AbstractUsing GIS to Model and Predict Likely Archaeological Sites Track: Ecology, Archaeology, and Conservation Author(s): Christopher Ohm Clement, Sahadeb De, Robin Wilson Kloot The South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology (SCIAA) and the Earth Sciences and Resources Institute of the University of South Carolina (Esri-USC) collaborated to develop a predictive model for likely archaeological sites. The study area covered 100 7.5' quadrangles or roughly one-third of the area of the State of South Carolina, using available data sources. The model made extensive use of floodplain, hypsographic, and Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data. This paper discusses the predictive model, its results, and some of the issues faced during the project related to data management and innovation.
