AbstractEnvironmental Assessment of the St. Mary's River, Maryland, Using GIS Track: Environment Management Author(s): Robert W. Paul, Jonathan K. Linn, Vince Formica Rapid development and shifting land use practices have generated concern for the environmental integrity of the St. Mary's River watershed in St. Mary's County, Maryland. St. Mary's College of Maryland is utilizing GIS to compile and analyze tidal and nontidal water quality data within the watershed. This paper presents methods of assessing relationships between sampling data and key controls such as soil type, agricultural practices, land use, and development. This study will enhance land management within the watershed to help protect an important tributary of the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay. Robert W.
