Abstract

Efficient DEM Editing Tools for Integration of DEMs and Mapped Hydrography
Track: Water Resources
Author(s): Kristine L Verdin

ArcView-based tools have been developed as part of the NED-H project at the EROS Data Center to facilitate efficient editing of DEMs. In areas where DEM-derived streamlines and basin boundaries are inconsistent with mapped sources, such as in areas of highway overpasses or flow-through culverts, these tools permit an analyst to efficiently modify the DEM surface, ensuring that hydrologic derivatives are "in synch" with mapped sources. Changes to the DEM surface are limited in order to minimize the degradation of the DEM surface. Derivatives obtained from a DEM adjusted in this fashion retain the desirable relationship between the elevation data and the derivatives.
