AbstractSpan Manager ROW Vegetation Management System Track: Environment Management Author(s): Greg M Ina, Michael R Binkley This paper focuses on the computerization of a vegetation management system for utility right-of-way corridors historically managed by clipboards and paper maps. This project was initiated in an environmentally sensitive parkland area in northern Indiana where the application of certain herbicides is closely monitored. A MapObjects/Visual Basic application operating on field-ready pen-based computers linking to a desktop ArcView GIS workstation has greatly improved operation production and efficiency. This project has also proven to be an excellent communicative tool with adjacent local homeowners. Our presentation will outline the technical specifics of the project design, secondary data employed, field trials and tribulations, and an overview of the desktop system that handles field synchronization and output.
