AbstractVisual Orientation: A Cost-Effective Orthophoto Updating Technique Track: New Technology and Technology Integration Author(s): Chris J. Russelavage, Richard Jessop, Wolfgang Schickler Visual orientation refers to the process of using existing orthorectified imagery to collect ground control points in order to determine exterior orientation for the new imagery of the same area. This circumvents the need for rigorous aerial triangulation or airborne GPS, which provides a cost-saving alternative to update orthophotography. The trade-off is reduced accuracy. We will present the developed work flow and tools as well as an error analysis of the developed visual orientation process. Two successful case studies will also be discussed: Austin, Texas, and the Winter 2002 Olympic Games sites. Chris J.
