AbstractGIS Empowerment to Strengthen Communities Track: Application Development Author(s): Brad Chranko, Jocelyn Wilson The Neighborhood Partners Workstation (NPWS) is an ArcGIS custom application developed by Fannie Mae's GIS/Market Research Center to support its community development division, the Neighborhood Partners (NP) Group. The application gives NP managers, who are located in their respective cities, a powerful desktop analytical tool with access to a wealth of neighborhood-level data, as well as automated reports for tracking the progress of the community's redevelopment. The NPWS's primary functions allow a user to edit, analyze, view, and print spatial and tabular data for both neighborhood characteristics and area investment trends. The application allows users to create various maps of target area neighborhoods. These maps depict the area's characteristics and allow a user to define spatial relationships between characteristics and neighborhood investment activity and opportunities. Demographics, area assets, investment activities, project locations, and parcel and building information can be arranged in ways that suit the user's analysis. Images of the neighborhood are also available to help the user understand the neighborhood's composition and land use. Images are displayed in three forms. § Aerial photographs--photographs taken from planes flying over a neighborhood § Building photographs--photographs of properties taken from street level § USGS quad basemaps--displays and names major landmarks, streets, railroads, contours, water bodies, and general land use Neighborhood reports depicting investment activity and opportunities as well as general demographics and individual parcel data can be generated by the NPWS. When a report request is processed, the application will extract neighborhood-level data and display it in a report layout, ready to print, on the user's screen. Examples of reports include § Demographics Snapshot--displays demographic information on population, households, race/ethnic distribution, education, employment, housing type, and occupancy status, and compares the selected neighborhood to the city or to another neighborhood § Parcel View Report--displays a photo of the property, the parcel's general characteristics, tax assessor record information, and property acquisition cost estimates Brad Chranko Fannie Mae 3900 Wisconsin Ave NW Washington, DC 20016-2892 USA Phone: 202.752.3325 Fax: 202.752.4230 E-mail: bradley_s_chranko@fanniemae.com |
