AbstractThe Mapping of New York City Track: System Implementation for GIS Author(s): Krysia Sapeta, Jim Cannistra This paper presents an overview of the procedures and specifications used for photogrammetric mapping of the five boroughs of New York City. New York City presented unique mapping challenges, especially related to the density and height of buildings throughout Manhattan Island and portions of adjacent boroughs. Flight planning, database design, and mapping methodologies are discussed, as well as incorporation of cadastral data into the database. This presentation includes a review of final distribution of the data from a central server as well as distribution on CD-ROM, via ArcView shapefiles on a per-borough basis. Also discussed are the latest methods for update mapping and applications of the data.
