AbstractInteroperability: IBM GFIS and Esri via the DB2 Spatial Extender Track: -NONE- Author(s): David W Adler The availability of ArcSDE 8.1 provides support for the IBM DB2 Spatial Extender V7.1 as an enterprise spatial database management system. The implementation of OpenGIS Consortium and ISO SQL/MM spatial standards in the IBM DB2 V7.1 Spatial Extender provides the opportunity to simplify the sharing of spatial data between GIS tools and vendors. This paper will address how Esri spatial tools such as ArcGIS 8.1 and ArcExplorer can be used to access and analyze data which has been stored in the DB2 Spatial Extender by the the IBM GFIS products. It will also consider the use of non-GIS SQL query tools to perform spatial queries and analysis directly against the database. These tools can also be used to perform spatial queries against data maintained by ArcSDE 8.1.
