AbstractComparing and Contrasting Library Tools for Finding GIS Data Track: K-12 Education and Library Science Author(s): Steven P. Morris A number of tools are available for finding geodata resources in the NCSU libraries. Current tools include thesaurus-based lookup, Web documentation of individual data collections, metadata records that have been crosswalked into MARC for retrieval in the library catalog, and clickable index maps. Planned deployments include a searchable ISITE index of metadata and a prototype expert system for selecting data resources. The advantages and disadvantages of each of these approaches will be discussed. Implications for ongoing maintenance will also be addressed. Steven P.
