AbstractUsing ArcIMS to Get Spatial User Feedback Track: Universities and Higher Education Author(s): Dong-Han Kim, Kheir Al-Kodmany The Great Cities Urban Data Visualization program in the University of Illinois at Chicago is a research center, that aims at fostering neighborhood planning with the deployment of Web-based GIS technologies. In this paper we discuss a Web-based GIS developed for the Community of North Lawndale in Chicago. The system has been designed not only to provide spatial information but also to obtain spatial user feedbacks. This paper examines how to design and implement such a system applying ArcIMS, Java, and other related Web programming tools. In addition, it explains the implications of two-way communications on the Web-based GIS to enhance participatory community planning.
