AbstractUsing Geographic Information Systems to Delineate Flood Information Track: Water Resources Author(s): Michael H. Woo County officials, highway officials, private engineers, and property owners have a constant need for flood data to help solve water management problems, reduce flooding, and help in the long-range planning of an area. Geographic information systems can identify existing flooding areas in watersheds. GIS can map out the location, size, and type of existing culverts; extent of floodplains; elevations of property subject to flooding; and the size and shape of the main drainage canals and stream systems. GIS can provide maps and drawings of areas that are susceptible to flooding. Michael H.
