AbstractArcGIS and Forestry Decision Support: The Michigan DNR IFMAP Project Track: Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management Author(s): Brian Noyle, Frank Sapio, Andrew Brenner This paper will discuss the use of ArcGIS technology in the development of a State-wide enterprise GIS decision support system for the Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources. As part of a multiresource management project, Pacific Meridian Resources is developing a three-tiered geographic decision support environment (GDSE) to integrate field inventory, management activity tracking, and remote sensing efforts in the Michigan DNR Forest Management Division. The paper will explore the application design and implementation experiences that occurred in this project. This includes consideration of application design and deployment using the ArcGIS delineation of ArcInfo, ArcEditor, and ArcView licensing. A review of issues involved in the development of custom ArcMap-based applications will be presented focusing on the need to integrate data across DNR divisions in order to facilitate a more holistic approach to natural resource management.
