AbstractIntegrating High-Resolution Imagery with GIS for Mapping Irrigated/Non-Irrigated Landcover Track: Water Resources Author(s): Clare Hess, Jose Granillo With water supplies shrinking rapidly, the City of El Paso, Texas, is turning to satellite imagery to aid in water resource management. Working with Pacific Meridian Resources, the City has designed a project utilizing high-resolution imagery integrated with GIS modeling techniques to aid in water resource management issues. This paper will review the novel techniques that were utilized including the use of pan-sharpened, high-resolution imagery (i.e. 1 and 4 meter), to extract maximum spectral information with the highest spatial resolution. This presentation will discuss the use of these techniques for mapping irrigated/nonirrigated land cover in El Paso in two separate classifications: (1) using Landsat 7 ETM+ data and (2) using Space Imaging's IKONOS data. The role of remote sensing and GIS technologies will be discussed.
