Abstract
Distributed Hydrographic Spatial Data Servers

The NOAA Office of High Performance Computing & Communications, in conjunction with the Coastal Services Center and Office of Coast Survey, developed and tested a multihost ArcSDE and ArcIMS configuration for the publication of bathymetry data. Several tools and protocols were developed for migrating a file-based inventory containing tens of millions of records to an Oracle and ArcSDE configuration. HTML and customized Java interfaces to the database were created using ArcIMS. Informal performance testing was conducted using multiple data types across distributed servers and varying network bandwidths.
