Abstract

Putting the "G" in "ASP"
Track: Geography Network
Author(s): Stephen P. Phipps

Fortune 500 companies already know about the awesome power of the application service provider (ASP). But what does that mean for GIS managers and users? What benefits can they realize by combining the ASP momentum with geographically based data? Does G + ASP have to result in a "gasp"? This session will discuss the almost limitless ways that the ASP environment is revolutionizing access to GIS data. In tandem with Esri's powerful new Geography Network portal, this is a solution that can deliver on the promise to build a global community of GIS users. And, as the Internet itself has shown over and over, instant access rapidly erodes the boundaries between data sets. Gone are the days when data set, wire, or hard drive size controls the way data can be disseminated. As the "it can't be done" of hardware limitations evaporates, the sky may seem to be the only limit. This session will give some down-to-earth advice on the G-ASP environment and the power of the Geography Network.
