AbstractCity Planning Supported by Earth Observation Technology: IKONOS Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Vance Cerasini, Sylvie Scantland Recently, the City of Dublin, Ohio, has adopted high resolution space imaging technology to help monitor its urban areas. Outdated information poses a major challenge to effective planning in rapid growth urban areas. With the one-meter resolution IKONOS satellite imagery, it is now practical for the City to acquire timely information within budget constraints for planning purposes. The City of Dublin will demonstrate how satellite imagery is integrated with ArcInfo and ArcView for a variety of applications including land use planning, proposed roadway corridor planning, storm sewer system planning (used in conjunction with topography), disaster planning, task planning for grass mowing (area calculations), landmark tree preservation, street-tree management/inventory, and finally as overlay in a Web-based GIS for more than 60 users.
