AbstractGIS Education for Agriculture Students: Tennessee State University Perspective Track: Universities and Higher Education Author(s): Sam O Dennis, Robert E Harrison, Stephen H Kolison Jr. Traditionally, agricultural courses have focused on a single subject matter (e.g., entomology). Success in the real world is more often dependent on integrating emerging technology, such as GIS, with traditional agriculture courses. GIS is fast becoming an indispensable tool for better decision making in the management of natural resources. Our goal at Tennessee State University is to incorporate GIS-related subject matter into selected existing agricultural courses. The impact will be to graduate more society-ready students with real-world applications of GIS. To this end, short, intensive, hands-on training workshops will be conducted beginning in the summer of 2001.
