AbstractSimplified GIS for Community Planners Track: Application Development Author(s): David Gadsden Despite the worldwide adoption of GIS as a powerful technology in many fields, it has only begun to find a place within social services. In this presentation we will explore some of the reasons why, as well as review some GIS software that has been designed specifically for nontechnical users. This presentation will focus on the modifications to the ArcView 3.2 GUI including design considerations for VB-based extensions, the benefit of providing appropriate data, and, finally, software design considerations that can make complicated technology more accessible to the user.
