Abstract
Accessing GIS Data Through the Internet: A Case Study

This paper will describe how the Olivenhain Municipal Water District will access GIS data entirely over the Internet. The District has contracted with Nobel Systems, Inc., to house the District's GIS data on servers at Nobel's headquarters more than 100 miles from the District office. Using ArcIMS, Nobel Systems will allow the District to enjoy the benefits of a GIS system at a fraction of the cost. The District will pay a reasonable monthly fee and avoid adding any staff or computers to access the data. Nobel has also developed custom interfaces with existing District databases that will improve customer service.
