AbstractUsing ArcIMS to Share Avalanche and Snowpack Observations in Alaska Track: Ski/Avalanche Author(s): Skip X Repetto This paper will provide an example of collaborative Internet-based GIS. The South Central Alaska Avalanche InfoPage is a map-centric application that allows backcountry travelers to create and submit spatial data that can be incorporated into the main map, which displays a variety of themes. After users collect snow pit information in the field, they can create a point on the map, add attribute data to the point (e.g., date, slope angle, aspect elevation, Rutschblock test), and submit the point to the map server. The system administrator can verify that the point meets quality standards before adding it to the master point shapefile.
