AbstractBulk Processing on Large ArcSDE 8 Geodatabases Track: Database Design, Automation, and Management Author(s): Edward Thomas Blair Most query and edit operations on an ArcSDE 8 Geodatabase occur on a relatively small number of features over a short duration. From time to time it may also be necessary to perform operations that touch many or all of the features in the Geodatabase. When the Geodatabase contains millions or tens of millions of features, then these bulk operations merit special attention. This paper describes experiences from several large Geodatabase processing operations. One used complex network traversal methods to update to more than one million features of a 20 million-feature Geodatabase. Others extracted many features over the entire database or over only "dirty" portions of it.
