AbstractLandslide Hazard Assessment Using GIS Track: Modeling Author(s): Guoyun Zhou, Tetsuro Esaki, Yasuhiro Mitani A new approach for landslide hazard assessment by combining GIS and infinite slope stability theory is proposed and applied in Sasebo area, southern Japan. The digital elevation model (DEM) for the study area has been created in the scales of 1:25,000 and 1:2,500. The calculation results of slope angle and slope aspect in two scales are discussed. Based on the above DEM, the stream network in the area is identified. Through the spatial interpolation of the stream network, the thickness distribution of alluvium above tertiary strata is determined with good precision. Finally, by integrating GIS and the infinite slope stability model, the slope failure safety factor distribution is obtained in the case of low- and high-water levels.
