AbstractDriver Inattention in Fatal and Injury Traffic Crashes Track: Health and Human Services Author(s): Janace Pierce, Dale Cooper, Leslie Ray Recently, with the surge in the number of cell phones, many jurisdictions have been considering banning their use while driving, assuming that their use by the driver distracts the driver and thus causes crashes. An ArcViewSofteare-based GIS of fatal and injury traffic crashes is used to help identify where, how, and when driver inattention impacts fatal and injury crashes in the County of San Diego. Subregional areas of the County, land use areas, and types of roads will be used in conjunction with violation category, time of day, and driver characteristics to paint a picture of the role of inattention.
