AbstractA Multicomputing Software Environment for ArcInfo Intervisibility Analysis Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): Mike Mineter, Steve Dowers, Bruce Gittings, , Douglas Caldwell The paper describes the development and use of a prototype, multicomputing software environment for intervisibility analysis. The multicomputing software architecture executes multiple ArcInfo commands concurrently on networked processors, using spare CPU cycles to reduce the elapsed time for the analysis. For every elevation post in a Digital Elevation Model (DEM), we determine the visible regions. The individual intervisibility analyses are combined in a compact database, called a Complete Intervisibility Database (CID). The CID is then exploited by a series of interactive decision aids that determine cumulative and maximum visibility.
