Creating a Sewer Geodatabase Model for the City of Torrance
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Author(s): Jennifer Gough, Latha Palakur, Tam Tu, Haritha Vendra

The City of Torrance recently worked with consultant DCSE to update the sewer GIS. The update includes many new features, such as sewer laterals, that were not in the previous sewer GIS coverages. A decision was made to bite the bullet and create a sewer geodatabase. This paper explains how the Esri sewer/stormwater model was adapted to a simpler model. As updated data were entered into the geodatabase, some advantages of using a model became apparent. The City of Torrance also opted to use a sewer atlas creation tool that was adapted from the Map Book Developer Sample. The paper will briefly describe the tool, advantages for map production and show tips and tricks that were used to overcome issues during map series creation.
