Paper
GIS as a strategy to Programme Management
Track: GIS Organization, Management, and Implementation
Authors: Kendall James

GIS is at the heart of planning for Thames Water's proposed Thames Tunnel, set to substantially reduce the volume of untreated sewage discharged to the River Thames from the capital's Victorian sewer: They will be the deepest tunnels ever constructed under London.

GIS underpins information control for the proposed tunnels, strongly influencing deliverables.
An enterprise Esri GIS system that provides cross-functional project support, managing ever changing information sets.
This has been 'future proofed' to not only deal with the complexities of a dynamic System Master Plan, Modelling, Ground Investigation, Site Selection and Planning, but also support future work packages, including EIA, Transport Planning, Public Consultation, Design and Construction.
The project's use of web-based collaboration tools and ArcGIS Server (wrapped by robust standards, policies and procedures) ensures GIS is the central information store.
High quality information is created, stored and disseminated into the business benefits GIS brings to large programmes.
