An Overview of Newfoundland and Labrador's Water Resources Portal
Track: Water Resources
Authors: Ali Khan, Corey Tucker

The Newfoundland and Labrador Water Resources Portal was built in 2009 to enhance the sharing of information and the management of water in the province. It provides residents with on demand access to a wide variety of water resources and geographic information. In addition to the general public, other stakeholders who benefit from the portal include industry; municipalities; federal agencies; other provincial departments and agencies; academia; recreational users (outfitters, salmon fishers, kayakers); engineering consultants; and special interest groups such as environmental organizations and watershed management committees.

The portal provides a state of the art, yet easy to use mapping interface to the public, allowing access to all of the rich water resources data made available by the province. The ArcGIS Server based application leverages the government's new Map Resource Center, which is a central repository of ArcGIS Server web services providing access to spatial data from numerous government departments.
