The prairie contracts were managed with the SQL database OPEN ACCESS II, the vector parcel layer was managed through ArcInfo and the analyses were performed through the GRID module of ArcInfo.

The AML language allowed the writing of a menu driven application.

Another aspect of this study confirms that after automating the procedure via GRID and AML, the whole process takes 16 hours from the reception of SPOT XS data on CD-ROM to cartographic hardcopy output of the monitoring of the declared prairie grasslands.

More generally, the authors consider that an integrated, common approach to cadastral update and satellite data exploitation with other organisations in a regional database exchange would greatly improve the administrative process, data management efficiency and therefore further reduce minor discrepencies and the cost implications of the project (17 francs per hectare for this, the first application).
