Abstract
GIS in Territorial Management—-Physical, Economic, and Social Data IntegrationTrack: State and Local Government

Implementation of GIS in Reconquista River Basin (167,000 hectares) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, under the Project for Environmental Improvement and Flood Control of the basin. Basic accurate cartography and thematic mapping was developed using satellite and aerial imagery, integrating designs. This information allowed updating of land value for affected parcels, inhabitants reallocation, and landscape and green areas preservation. The GIS functionality implemented, as well as processing up-to-date imagery, was very useful to monitor the improvement works behavior during an unusually strong storm event in 2000 and to focus investments in critical areas.
