AbstractA Prototype of Societal GIS--Window to My Environment Track: Environment Management Author(s): Vincent Zhuang, Dave Wolf, Xiaowen Huang This paper presents the use of GIS in one of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Information Integration Initiative projects, which is called "Window to My Environment (WME)." WME is a Web-based GIS application that allows the public to obtain detailed information on air and water quality, watershed health, toxic releases, contaminated site cleanups, and state and local governmental services for their neighborhood or their place of choice. The prototype of WME covers the states in the mid-Atlantic region including Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. The paper explores how to build a societal Internet geoservice in great detail.
